Sovereign Global’s Commercial Diving arm – SG SALVAGE – has successfully replaced 454 anodes on the subsea piles supporting the Doraleh Oil Terminal (DOT) in Djibouti (November 2019).

Doraleh Oil Terminal (DOT)

Diving and welding in high-explosive hazardous environments such as Oil Terminals requires highly skilled divers and specialist equipment to ensure the risk of any incidents is negated.  Prior to this operation, SG SALVAGE completed their usual comprehensive Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work for the specific tasks involved including Underwater Welding, Equipment Safety and Operations in Oil & Gas Explosive Environments, and the task was completed to ABS Class standards with no adverse incidents.

On completion of the task, cathodic protection levels on all 192 piles were tested by an ABS class representative, and comparisons of the readings taken before the new anodes were fitted revealed a considerable improvement.

In total, the task took SG SALVAGE 60 days and 4,222 man diving hours to complete.
