Exciting times are here in Djibouti as the Whale Shark season approaches! We have been fortunate to be able to complete repairs on our Motor Yacht (MY) Deli, giving her a new engine as well as replacing some of her older bits and pieces in order to give her an update. With the completion of the work, MY Deli is ready to start Diving Operations on October 21st, 2017 with our very first cruise of the season.
For this winter season, we have also been fortunate to hire a dynamic young team of Diving Professionals and look forward to an exhilarating season exploring the beautiful underwater world of Djibouti. Our team consists of professionals from the United States, Australia, New Zealand and France, and each has their own unique experience diving in different environments and situations. Catering for a variety of different languages, we now teach recreational diving in French, English and Spanish, and this season we expect to provide our services to an even greater array of clients than ever before.
The Whale Shark season from mid-October to February brings an amazing animal into our waters in search of the plankton ‘blooms’ which develop in the enclosed bay Ghoubbet al Kharab (the Devil’s Cauldron) and Gulf of Tadjourah. Growing up to 46 feet (14 m), the Whale Shark is the largest shark in the world, but is perfectly harmless and indifferent to divers as it slowly swims by, filter-feeding on tiny plankton, krill, small fish and squid.
As well as Whale Sharks, Djibouti has extensive, healthy coral reefs covering much of its coastline with over 200 recorded species of coral and an abundance of marine life, including large shoals Barracuda, Jacks and Snapper. For ocean-explorers, there are also numerous ship wrecks to explore in crystal-clear water, including some great swim-throughs. Put all this together with our traditional warm-African welcome, first-class cuisine, and world-beating beaches, Djibouti has something to offer everybody!
So, come and join us on the refurbished MY Deli with our new crew and we will be happy to do the rest – I expect everyone will have a great season!
